I was able to complete this task.
Path:
nautilus → Desktop → <no name> → <no name> (#2) → File → Create Folder → [Take Action]
At this point, the text is automatically selected. I typed in the desired name for the new folder and hit enter when finished.
Alternate Path:
nautilus → Desktop → <no name> → <no name> (#1) → Content View → Icon View → [Action: menu, “Popup context menu”] → [Take Action]
From here, I had the context menu (which is also referenced in the first path), and selected “Create Folder”, then typed text.
Keyboard Alternative:
Control-Alt-Tab → (Select “Desktop”) → Shift-F10 → Arrow Down → Enter
This method also creates a new folder, selects the “untitled folder” text, and waits for the user to enter a new name.
