Title for ad (could use improvement):
**Educators/Civil Servants/Biotech Professionals Needed- Earn $50
Ad text: A company with offices in Kendall Square needs people who work at educational institutions, civil servants, people in the biotech industry, and others who use computers to participate a software study. We have openings on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday afternoons ([dates of study]). This study will take about half an hour of your time, and each participant will recieve $50 in the form of an American Express gift card (works like cash anywhere American Express is accepted). This would be a great way to earn some extra money during your lunch break.
If you would like to be a part of this study, please answer the questions below.
Please send us an email with the following information:
1. What is your occupation? What sort of business do you work for? 2. Do you use a computer at work? If so, for what purposes? 3. Do you use a computer at home? If so, for what purposes? 4. Which operating system(s) are you familiar with? (or, what kind of computer do you own?) 5. Are you available at any of the following times? Wednesday ([date]) at 1:15, 2:00, 2:45, or 3:30 Thursday ([date]) at 1:15, 2:00, 2:45, or 3:30 Friday ([date]) at 1:15, 2:00, 2:45, or 3:30
Thank you for taking interest in our study. We hope to hear from you soon!
Job location is Cambridge- Kendall Square
Compensation: $50 (Craigslist will reject the ad if compensation is listed as a gift card)
Dear [name],
Thanks for doing our study!
We will be on the Novell offices located at: 8 Cambridge Center, Suite 500 Cambridge, MA 02142 (near the Kendall Square/MIT stop on the red line)
8 Cambridge Center is located on Broadway between Ames and Galileo Galilei Streets. The building’s address should actually be something like 130 Broadway; you can see its location on this map.
8 Cambridge Center is next to a Marriott Residence hotel with a Starbucks on the bottom floor (at the corner of Broadway and Ames). Our office is on the 5th floor. You’ll need to sign in at the front desk when you arrive. If you have any problems getting to the office, feel free to call me on my cell phone at [cell phone /office number].
If you’re taking the T, you’ll want to go to the Kendall Square/MIT stop, walk 1 block up Ames to Broadway and head to the left. Like I said, there is a parking area directly across the street from the building, but I should warn you that they charge at least an $8 rate and we can not validate or reimburse any parking fees. Many people opt to find street parking in the neighborhood. The appointment won’t take more than 20- 30 minutes, so you should be safe if you fill up a parking meter.
The study will be fairly straightforward; you’ll be in a laboratory (that looks like an office) and asked a few questions about your computer use similar to the ones I asked in the Craigslist ad. Then, we’ll ask you to do a few computer-related tasks on newly-designed software. This is not to measure your computer skills, but to monitor your reactions and expectations to the software (where you’d expect to find a certain type of file, etc.). We’d also like you to let us know what you do/don’t like about the software, what you would change, etc. We LOVE criticism because it helps us design more effectively.
People usually finish the study within about 20 minutes. With your permission, we’ll videotape the study so that we can share footage (for intercompany use only). Many of our designers live in other countries, so having video footage to share with them is important. And of course, we’ll give you a $50 American Express gift card.
Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Otherwise, I’ll see you [day] at [time]!
